Wedding Dress Adventures Part II

Good morning, loves! I know I have been quiet as a mouse on the blog lately. I've been trying to keep up with my blog reading, and the thing I miss most when I take a break is getting to hear from all of my lady loves. :) I hope you are all doing well. It's a balmy day here in Minnesota, and the spring-like temperatures of 30-something have definitely put some spring in my step today.

So, this weekend I went for my second round of wedding dress shopping.

We started out at a small boutique that specializes in vintage wedding dresses. It started out pretty unsuccessfully and once again, nothing was zipping up. And then, we found one that did.

And it is beautiful. The friends loved it, and it is actually in my price range (even with the alterations). We left, knowing that we had probably found the dress, because we had another appointment.

And the shopping (and drinking) continued.

We went to the second boutique, and as we waited for a few of my friends to show up, we tried on a few dresses and then I plopped down in my mint green tights and a pink bra and just started drinking mimosas happily chatting with my friends. It was a sight, I am sure.

And we found a dress - my friends were in love with it - but I thought I better ask how much it was seeing as the dresses mysteriously had no tags.

And, it was three times my budget. The other dresses on the rack (this rack above) that I had yet to try on were three to five times my budget.

And, I lost it. I started crying. I think it was a combination of the champagne, me just being a cryer (let's be real), and the fact that I was embarrassed. I told the salesgal that there was no point in trying on the rest of the dresses because they were that much out of my price range. I put on my clothes, wiped away my tears, packed up the mimosa supplies, and we told my friends to not even bother coming there, and just meet us at a local pub.

I called Cayla on the way - sobbing - saying that I was embarrassed and sad and that I would never find a dress. She told me that even if my dream dress cost a million dollars, then so be it, we would pay a million dollars and make it work. (And this is why I am marrying her.)

A few drinks later, I felt a lot better about life and the wedding dress situation. My lady loves made me laugh and we had a great afternoon. We all went back to our house to drink more mimosas (my friends had gotten babysitters so no one wanted this lady date to end).

When we got there, I said I had a few dresses in my closet that might work for the bridesmaids, and they wanted to see them. When I brought one out, they told me I needed to try it on.

When I walked out, they all got quiet and said: That's the dress.

I found my wedding dress in my closet.

This photo is pure joy. Shot at our dear friends' wedding. This photographer is also doing our wedding. She's amazing.
 Is that possible?

I am still thinking about the vintage 1950s dress from the boutique...It's down to the vintage dress in my closet and that one. But I have not only found the dress, I've found two.

Now, to pick which one!

xoxo,

S.S.

  1. Aww, I am sorry the dresses were so crazy expensive - and how freaking awesome is Cayla to say that you should buy it anyway? You have the sweetest love ever! But I also love that there was a dress right under your nose in your own closet! No matter what, I'm sure you're going to be a beautiful bride!!

  2. Oh my gosh, what an emotional day. Wedding dress shopping seems so stressful.

It's exciting to hear you might just have the perfect one already in your closet. How amazing is that! I just cannot wait to see you all done up as a beautiful bride. I'm sure your wedding is going to be gorgeous (whether you're in an expensive dress or not!)

  6. Oh, Amanda, I'm so so glad that your friends helped you turn that day around!! And you know, the dress is all about how you feel in it. Go with whichever one makes you FEEL like a bride; everyone's going to think you LOOK like a bride, even if you're in a potato sack with a veil, haha! And what a great story about the dress in your own closet. That moment is always going to be special, even if the dress doesn't end up being worn on the day. And you're going to look and feel so SO beautiful :)

I hope you're keeping cozy!! I'm ready for this winter thing to end, and it's nothing but freezing rain the next few days. ICK!

  8. Yeah, totally wear two! Wear one for the ceremony, and one for the reception! A lot of brides do that. And while wearing the dress of your dreams is amazeballs, I guarantee it will not even cross your mind the day of, or when you think about the awesome day you had. I know you know that, but it's sometimes hard to see the forest for the trees when you're in the midst of it all. ;)

  12. I had such a hard time finding a wedding dress. I still never found "THE" dress. I had to settle with somethin kinda typical and not really my style 'cause I ran out of time. I wanna see what your closet dress looks like! or are ya keepin' it a secret?
